The opening scene is wonderfully scary, Bod and his family are very appealing, and just when I was thinking, there aren't enough "funny bits" (as Matilda says), well, there they were, though perhaps not as many as one might wish. But the ending didn't quite satisfy--leaving it open to sequels apparently. I am eager to see how my students take to this one.
Didn't finish it. I should've read more about the book before checking it out. Or at least discovered who Gabrielle Hamilton was. I was expecting another "My life in France" type book that laments the lack of chickeny flavor in chicken. Not a book about bad parents, bad friends, bad jobs and bad choices.
I love meandering books, where most everything happens inside someone's head. It validates my experience of the world. It's stunning to see the richness of people's inner worlds captured on the page.
